Essex Police drink-drive officer sacked

An off-duty police officer who crashed his BMW into a parked car after drinking and driving has been sacked by Essex Police.

PC Rajinder Chana, 27, was banned from driving for 16 months after admitting the offence in court last month.

Mr Chana, from Ilford, had served in Harlow as part of the neighbourhood policing team.

He was dismissed by Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh, who said there was no place for officers who broke the law.

Mr Kavanagh said Mr Chana had also shown a lack of "respect and courtesy" by not turning up to the misconduct hearing.
