Six people detained in 'distress call' lorry hunt

A lorry from which two distress calls were made to police has been found.

Essex Police issued an urgent appeal on Wednesday morning after they received calls from people in the back of a white lorry near North Weald.

The lorry was found at the Toddington services on the M1 near Dunstable in Bedfordshire.

Six people thought to have come to the UK illegally have been detained. Four other people from the lorry managed to escape and ran off, police say.
