Broomfield Village Hall party murder suspect arrested

A 24-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man outside a village hall party.

The victim, 55, from Bracknell, Berkshire, died just after midnight on Sunday after being attacked outside the hall in Broomfield, Chelmsford.

A woman was also attacked and taken to hospital with a suspected broken nose.

The suspect, from Chelmsford, fled the scene but was arrested at about 02:00 BST. He is also being held on suspicion of assaulting the woman.

Det Insp Steve Ellis, of Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "The murder victim, assault victim and suspect were all attending a private party being held inside Broomfield Parish Hall in Main Road.

"Both assaults happened outside the hall in the car park area.

"I would urge anybody with any information about the incident who has not already spoken to officers to contact us."

Officers have sealed off the scene while forensic examinations are carried out.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later.

Police were called at about 23:55 on Saturday by the ambulance service, who were treating the unconscious man.
