Man arrested after seven hours on Cheltenham roof

A man has been arrested after he climbed on to the roof of a building in Cheltenham.

Police negotiated with the 27-year-old for about seven hours before he was detained on suspicion of assault.

He climbed on top of a block of flats on old Bath Road at about 1015 GMT. He was arrested just before 1715 GMT.

The road was partially closed during the incident. Police said a 29-year-old man who suffered an ankle injury nearby was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The 29-year-old is being treated at Cheltenham General Hospital.
