Golf club used on Cheltenham man in assault

A 26-year-old man from Cheltenham suffered serious head injuries when he was hit with a golf club.

Police were called to Winchcombe Street late on Wednesday night following reports of the attack.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said the man was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but was then transferred to Frenchay Hospital, near Bristol.

"Unknown offenders attacked the man on his own doorstep sometime between 11pm on Thursday and midnight," he said.

"The victim is being treated in hospital for his injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone in the Winchcombe Street or Wellington Street area at the time of the incident," the police spokesman added.
