Woman dies after serious crash on A417 near Cheltenham

A 62-year-old woman has died after being involved in a crash on the A417 at Crickley Hill near Cheltenham.

She was driving a Seat Ibiza which was in collision with two other vehicles near the Air Balloon roundabout at about 1430 GMT on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman, from Hawick in the Scottish Borders, was airlifted to Bristol's Frenchay Hospital where she died.

The road was closed for several hours. Delays were compounded by race traffic from the Cheltenham Gold Cup Festival.

The drivers of the two other vehicles, a Volkswagen Golf and an Isuzu pick-up truck, were not injured.

Police said the woman's next-of-kin and the coroner had been informed.
