£1.3m plans to repair Avening road slip on display

Plans have gone on display for a £1.3m project to stabilise a Cotswolds road damaged by years of subsidence.

In spring 2005 "extensive movement" was recorded on the B4014 Avening Road, east of Nailsworth, which was made worse by the floods in 2007.

A Gloucestershire County Council spokesman said work could only now begin because the subsidence had settled.

The four-month project should start in May and the opportunity will also be taken to install new drainage on site.

Councillor Stan Waddington, cabinet member for environment, said: "This road has been operating with traffic lights for about three years so it will make a big difference to local people once the work has finished; however, I know this will cause disruption for road users.

"Please be patient, if we don't do this vital work now the road could fail in the future, leading to bigger disruption and delays."
