Firefighters have been tackling a blaze above a row of shops in Bishops Cleeve near Cheltenham.

Four engines were called to Mill Parade just after 1330 BST where a two-storey building was alight.

Eye-witnesses said smoke was seen coming from the roof above the Ladbrokes bookmakers and flames quickly spread to neighbouring units.

Paramedics were called to the scene but there were not believed to be any injuries.

Local resident James Leyfield said: "It's quite dramatic, the speed at which the fire spread. The roofs are just getting slowly destroyed despite [the crews'] efforts."

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

A Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the roof was severely damaged and that crews would be at the site for some time.
