Suspected arson at house in Gloucester

Police believe a fire at a house in Gloucester was arson.

Firefighters were called to a semi-detached house in Jersey Road at about 0500 BST following reports a front door had been set on fire.

Petrol had also been poured on the pavement. A man on his way home from a night shift raised the alarm and put it out.

No-one was injured but police said it was "lucky" the fire was extinguished before it spread.

"It could have been very serious as the house was occupied at the time," said Det Con Claire Wyartt of Gloucestershire Police.

The fire service and police attended and carried out an investigation at the scene.

Police are making forensic and house-to-house inquiries.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact the police.
