Inmate Gareth Jenkins found hanged at Gloucester Prison

An inmate has been found hanged in his cell at Gloucester Prison.

Gareth Jenkins, 25, who was serving an eight-month jail term for fraud and possessing an offensive weapon, was discovered on Saturday.

The Prison Service said he was found at 14:20 BST and staff had tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A spokesman said the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will now conduct an inquiry into the death.
