University of Gloucestershire to keep documents dating from 1698

A deal has been signed to keep documents - including papers from the reign of Henry VIII - at the University of Gloucestershire.

The library includes Acts of Parliament dating between 1698 and 1864.

The documents will remain at the university following an agreement with Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society.

"It is the finest research library of its type in the county, if not the country," said archivist Lorna Scott.

The archive will be available to members of the public.
