Tewkesbury phone services still down after cable theft

About 150 homes and businesses in Gloucestershire could be without telephone and internet services until Wednesday, BT has warned.

The service has been down since underground cables were stolen in Tewkesbury last week.

The cabling, which ran alongside the road between Toddington and Alderton, was reported stolen on 15 September.

BT said it hoped to restore services to some customers on Monday but the repair work required was not straightforward.

"This work has proved to be incredibly difficult," a BT spokeswoman said.

"Unfortunately it is not as simple as putting a new cable in and the engineers are having to do some quite intricate work to enable us to restore services to customers."

Gloucestershire Police has appealed for information about the theft.
