A mother has described her terror after her car was set alight with her 18-month-old son inside.

Tanya Cuss left Chad in the vehicle on her driveway in Willersey, Gloucestershire, while she took his two siblings inside.

When she returned moments later, the car was on fire. "The flames were as tall as me," she said.

Police have launched an arson investigation following reports that a man was seen running away.

'Headless chicken'

The incident happened in Badsey Road at about 20:00 GMT on Thursday.

Speaking on Monday, Ms Cuss said: "The flames were as tall as me and luckily they were on that side of the car so I could easily get him out...

"I was absolutely terrified, I was like a headless chicken running around.

"I didn't know what to do."

The family managed to extinguish the blaze and the child was unharmed.

Gloucestershire Police said a man was seen running away from the scene around the time of the fire.

He got into the passenger seat of a white car or van and the male driver drove away, the spokesman said.

The force is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
