Stone thrown at car from M5 motorway bridge

A car windscreen was cracked after a "large stone" was thrown at it from a motorway bridge in Gloucestershire.

The incident happened on the M5 in the early hours of Sunday, between junctions 12 and 11a, near Gloucester.

Police say a man with grey hair and wearing a red and white coat threw the stone from the Upton Lane bridge which hit the car.

The driver of the car was not hurt but police described the incident as "despicable and reckless".

Insp Jason Keates, of Gloucestershire Police, said: "This is a very serious matter and officers, including a police dog, quickly went to the area and carried out a search, but unfortunately this individual was not located."
