Flashing collar saves Gloucestershire dog-walker

A dog-walker who ended up hanging upside down over a river was saved after rescuers were guided to his location by his pet's flashing collar.

The man's foot became entangled in fencing when he slipped down a riverbank in Dursley, Gloucestershire, at about 17:30 GMT on Wednesday.

The fire service said its control room had received a mobile phone call from the distressed man.

The spokesman said it had been a "very unlucky accident".

Watch Commander Neil Bridges said the firefighters had located the man quickly, in Ferney, because the dog had stayed with its master.
