Man arrested after pedestrian killed in South Cerney

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Gloucestershire.

The 24-year-old local man was hit as he walked along the B4696 Spine Road East, South Cerney, near Cirencester, at about 00:30 BST on Sunday.

A BMW which is believed to have struck the man then hit a tree nearby, police said.

The arrested man, 50, from Malmesbury in Wiltshire, is the suspected driver of the BMW, police said.

He has been bailed until 2 October.

Det Insp Ruth Mather said: "We are still exploring the possibility of whether a second vehicle was involved and failed to stop.

"We are continuing to gather information and are carrying out forensic tests to help establish the exact sequence of events that lead to this tragic incident."
