Chalford Parish Council retracts church shop objection

Chalford Community Stores trades out of the local parish church

A parish council in Gloucestershire which said a church being used as a village shop was "inappropriate" has changed its mind.

Chalford Parish Council last week lodged an objection against plans to make permanent a partnership between the community stores and Christ Church.

But it is now supporting the move of the shop which has traded in the church for a month since facing closure.

Sunday trading hours were agreed to avoid clashes with church worship.

The parish council planning committee statement read: "On further clarification and indication of the temporary nature of the application the meeting voted to support the application."

The Diocese of Gloucester had previously said it was "fully behind the proposal to make Chalford Church a permanent location for Chalford Community Stores".
