Ballerina Susie King is an expert at leaping and striking poses, but rarely from the wing of an aircraft. On this occasion she had an audience of one - a dance photographer collecting "out of context" images for a new exhibition. The photo was taken at Cotswold Airport and comes with a "don't try this at home" warning.
Photographer Jim Markland, from Cheltenham, said his inspiration for the theme came from an American dance photographer. "Locations bring dance to life in a way that studio work cannot," he said. Pictured here is English National Ballet dancer Ksenia Ovsyanick at the Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham.
Mr Markland, who has been a dance photographer for several years, said his passion began during a weekend business trip to Buenos Aires. He said this "witty image", of Szilvia Zsigmond on a Cheltenham street was very popular. "Dance, gymnastics and circus are moving closer and closer together," he added.
Rachel Louisa Maybank balanced on one leg for this picture at Gloucester Cathedral - one of Mr Markland's favourites despite a difficult photo-shoot in cold and damp conditions. The multicoloured garment was made in Rajasthan and meant to be a skirt, but "works much better as a cloak" he said.
Mr Markland said he loves Gloucestershire's "many different faces, whether natural or man-made". He travelled over the border for this wet photo at Buscot Park in Oxfordshire. Almira Ada Bayazitoglu was wearing a tutu made entirely out of tea bag paper. "Imagine what the rain could do to that," said Mr Markland.
His new exhibition, which runs throughout August at Gloucester Guildhall, is called Jumpin! Cotswold style. Dance pair Juan Manuel Acosta and Julia Urruty visit Cheltenham from Buenos Aires to teach and perform tango. They are pictured here at Pittville Pump Room.
Other featured locations included Rendcomb Airfield, Cheltenham Racecourse and Hidcote Manor Gardens. This image captured at Cirencester Park Polo Club, featuring Ksenia Ovsyanick, was a test shot but ended up being given a double-page spread in Polo Times magazine.
Gloucestershire Dance members Daisuke Miura and Krystal Lowe were photographed at Hidcote Manor Garden for a joint production with Ballet Cymru. Mr Markland said the light in the woodland "proved challenging even on a very sunny day".
