Cyclist in critical condition after Newent car collision

A 37-year-old cyclist from the Forest of Dean is in a critical condition after the bike he was riding collided with a car.

The accident happened on Glasshouse Hill, Newent, at 15:30 GMT on Sunday.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

"The driver of the grey Volkswagen Passat was unhurt. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact police," he added.

Correction: An earlier version of this story mistakenly said the cyclist had died, following the release of incorrect information by Gloucestershire Police.
