Demolition work begins on derelict Cheltenham Odeon

Demolition work has begun on the art deco former Odeon cinema in Cheltenham.

Developers Crest Nicholson confirmed that work has started to pull down the building, which was built in 1933 and shut down in 2006 after falling into disrepair.

Site owner Leckhampton Estates plans to redevelop the Winchcombe Street plot into shops and homes.

In its heyday the venue saw appearances by bands such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
