Cotswold Borough Council free parking plan 'to boost trade'

Shoppers in parts of Gloucestershire will benefit from free parking for two months in 2015 in a bid to boost trade, Cotswold District Council has said.

Drivers will get free parking in council car parks on Mondays and Tuesdays in January and February.

The trial follows a council decision to set aside £25,000 to attract more people to the Cotswolds during "traditionally quiet periods".

Conservative councillor Chris Hancock said the trial would be "welcome news".

"We believe that this trial will encourage more use of our car parks in the winter months and, hopefully, entice more people into our local shops," the cabinet member for enterprise and partnership added.

Car parks in Cirencester, Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold and Tetbury are included in the scheme.
