Van passenger killed in M5 crash near Tewkesbury

A passenger in a van has been killed in a crash on the M5 near Tewkesbury, close to the Worcestershire border.

Gloucestershire Police said the crash, involving a lorry and a white Sprinter box van, happened on the northbound carriageway about half a mile south of Junction 8 at around 18:40 GMT on Thursday.

The man, aged 29 and from the Derby area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van driver, from West Bromwich, was badly injured.

The motorway was closed northbound for several hours while emergency services attended the crash.

It reopened fully at 04:15.
