A man has denied killing an 82-year-old model railway enthusiast found stabbed to death at his home.

Dennis Plater was found dead at his home in Walkley Hill in Stroud, Gloucestershire, on 7 November last year.

David Hall, 47, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to Mr Plater's murder at Bristol Crown Court.

Judge Michael Roach remanded Mr Hall in custody and said a trial date would be set within the next week.

Mr Hall is accused of killing Mr Plater between 5 and 8 November.

Following his death, Mr Plater's family described him as "a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather" who was "most happy tinkering with his model railway."
