Mother, 17, charged with Fleet station baby killing

A 17-year-old mother has been charged with killing her own baby who was found wrapped in a carrier bag at a Hampshire railway station.

The girl, who cannot be named because of her age, is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on 3 September.

It has emerged that she appeared before magistrates at Basingstoke Youth Court on 18 August charged with infanticide and was released on bail.

The baby girl was found by a cleaner in a bin on 26 May at Fleet station.

Hampshire Police managed to trace the mother after a public appeal and she received treatment.
