Memorial plaques stolen from a Lyndhurst cemetery

Thieves described as "callous" have stolen 60 memorial plaques from a cemetery in the New Forest.

The metal plaques formed part of a circle of remembrance within the cemetery grounds at Lyndhurst in Hampshire.

Police said they were stolen between 19 and 22 September.

"The theft of these plaques placed as a memorial to loved ones who have passed away is very upsetting for their family and friends," said Ch Insp Gary Cooper.

He added: "This is a particularly callous crime.

"I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious around the cemetery or who has any information about the whereabouts of these stolen plaques."
