A Southampton football player arrested over an assault in a city centre bar has been bailed until December.

Lee Barnard, 26, was arrested along with three other men aged 31, 26 and 25 during the early hours of Sunday.

They were held after a 27-year-old man was found unconscious with serious head injuries outside the White House, in Above Bar.

The striker, who suffered a hand injury, answered bail at a city police station and was re-bailed.

Police were called to the bar at about 0245 BST on Sunday following reports that a man had been assaulted.

The 26-year-old signed for Southampton Football Club from Southend United in January.

He is unlikely to be involved in Saints' League One fixture against Tranmere at the weekend, the club said.
