Four arrested after puppies stolen from Basingstoke

Four people have been arrested and a puppy recovered after five four-week-old Staffordshire bull terriers were stolen in Hampshire.

Thieves broke into a home in Barbel Avenue, Basingstoke, overnight on 29 October with a woman in fancy dress seen outside in the early hours.

Three female and two male Staffordshire bull terriers were taken.

Two women and two men were arrested on Friday. One of the puppies was recovered and reunited with its owner.

The young animal was found in a poor condition and police are concerned for the welfare of the outstanding dogs.

Det Con Pete Hanson, of Hampshire police, said: "Although we have recovered one puppy, he is in poor health due to being fed with inappropriate food for a puppy so young.

"This makes it imperative we locate the other four swiftly as without the proper care they will almost certainly die."

A television and a laptop computer were also taken in the burglary.
