Driver injured as car hits tree near Basingstoke

A man is seriously ill in hospital after the car he was driving hit a tree.

The Lexus 250 was travelling on the Farleigh Road from Cliddesden towards the A339 at Basingstoke on Saturday at 1905 GMT when the driver lost control.

Police said the car hit a tree on the offside verge about 100m from the junction.

The 42-year-old driver, from Basingstoke, was taken to North Hampshire Hospital.

He was later transferred to Southampton General Hospital where his injuries were described as "severe" and "life threatening".
