Driver dies in Kingsclere car crash 'hit and run'

A motorist is being sought by police after fleeing a rush-hour crash on foot which left another driver dead.

Police were called to the B3051 in Kingsclere, in Hampshire, near to the Berkshire border, after a crash between a Volkswagen Passat and a Peugeot 206.

The Peugeot driver, in his early 30s, died at the scene. A female passenger was taken to Southampton General Hospital in a critical condition.

The male driver of the Volkswagen ran off before police arrived.

Road reopened

Officers said he may be injured and have appealed for witnesses.

Sgt Andy Lynch, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: "We believe the missing driver may be injured and in need of medical attention.

"If anyone you know arrives home with unexplained injuries and without their vehicle, please contact Hampshire Constabulary immediately."

The road was reopened shortly after 1600 GMT.
