Statue marks Southampton Football Club's anniversary

A statue is being unveiled in the centre of Southampton to mark the 125th anniversary of the city's football club.

Fans were expected to descend on Guildhall Square, where the sculpture is being displayed.

It was due to be unveiled at 1700 GMT by Lawrie McMenemy, manager when Southampton won the FA Cup in 1976.

The sculpture has been commissioned by Southampton Solent University as a gift to the city.

Trevor Thorne, of Solent University, said the sculpture, which depicts players, was "interactive" and could also be used as a bench.
