Isle of Wight man dies falling from scaffolding

A man died when he fell from scaffolding at a building site on the Isle of Wight.

The man, aged in his 40s and from the island, fell at the site in Lind Street, Ryde, on Tuesday afternoon.

He was taken to hospital in Newport but died later in the evening. Police were subsequently called in.

Post-mortem tests to establish the exact cause of death are to take place later. The victim's next-of-kin and the Isle of Wight coroner have been told.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is also working with police on the case.

The man will be formally identified at a later date when an inquest is opened and adjourned.
