Royal Navy sailor cleared of rape at court martial
A Royal Navy sailor has been found not guilty of raping a female colleague at an accommodation block at Portsmouth Naval Base in Hampshire.
Engineering technician (Marine Engineering) Kenni Dinnell, 21, was alleged to have raped the woman after a drunken night out on 10 July 2010.
A court martial deliberated for two hours to find Mr Dinnell not guilty.
The alleged victim, a sailor of able seaman (seaman) rank, claimed she had mistaken the defendant for his friend.
Mr Dinnell told the hearing she had consented to have sex with him.
