Driver dies in crash with bus in Southampton

A motorist has been killed in a collision between a bus and a car.

Emergency crews were called to the junction of Lodge Road and Cedar Road, Portswood, Southampton, at 0750 GMT.

The male car driver, aged 46 and from Southampton, died at the scene of the collision with the Bluestar bus, which was carrying 10 passengers.

A 54-year-old male car passenger was cut from the car and taken to Southampton General Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver and seven bus passengers were examined by paramedics. One was treated for minor injuries.

A spokesman for Bluestar said its thoughts were with the families of the driver and passenger and it was helping police as part of the investigation.

Road closures were put in place in Portswood Road, Lodge Road, Cedar Road, Bevois Hill and Avenue Road until 1200 GMT.
