Man's ear bitten off on night out in Portsmouth

A man had part of his ear bitten off as he made his way home after a night out in Portsmouth.

The victim, 22, was with his girlfriend when was attacked in Winston Churchill Avenue on Saturday at 0115 GMT.

The couple had stopped to ask two men, believed to be students, if they would call a taxi.

While they were talking, two other men appeared and assaulted one of the students. A fight ensued and the victim had part of his left ear bitten off.

Hampshire police said the man was treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital but may need further surgery.

Police are trying to trace the two students, who left the scene before police arrived.

Two men, aged 27 and 16, have been arrested in connection with the incident and bailed until 11 April.
