Two Southampton women attacked within three days
A woman has been assaulted after a night out in Southampton in the second similar attack in three days.
A man attempted to sexually assault the 18-year-old at about 0020 GMT after she walked along East Park Terrace opposite Solent University.
Early on Sunday, a 20-year-old was sexually assaulted in the subway in Brintons Road. Both women gave similar descriptions of their attacker.
Police have repeated their advice for women not to walk home alone.
In the attack on Sunday the woman had left The Edge nightclub when she was followed by a man who tried to engage her in conversation.
He pushed her to the floor and sexually assaulted her. The woman managed to push him off and escape.
In the latest attack the victim suffered superficial facial injuries as she fought the man off.
Both women described the man as aged between 20 and 30, of Asian appearance and of chubby build.
He was also wearing dark clothing and has short, dark hair.
Det Insp Charlie Rimmer said: "This is the second incident in only a number of days where a lone woman has been targeted by a male of a similar description while making their way home after a night out in Southampton.
"It is imperative we identify this person as soon as possible.
"Wherever possible [women] should take a taxi or walk in well-lit busy areas or with a group.
"We would also advise them be aware of their alcohol consumption, as drinking too much significantly increases their vulnerability."
