Tourist named after M3 Fleet Services fatal crash

A tourist who was knocked down and killed near a service station on the M3 in north Hampshire has been named.

Sigrid Schmitz, from Remscheid, Germany, was with a group of tourists on a coach which had pulled into Fleet services on the evening of 22 March.

The 79-year-old was struck by a Volkswagen Passat on the northbound carriageway after becoming separated from the group. She died at the scene.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Old Basing, near Basingstoke, was unhurt.

The coach had been heading towards Southampton when it had pulled into the services for a comfort break.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
