Man held over Southampton lone women attacks

A man has been arrested following two attacks against lone women walking in Southampton.

The women, aged 18 and 20, were attacked three days apart near to the Jurys Inn roundabout after a night out.

A 40-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the assaults in the early hours of 20 and 23 March.

Hampshire Constabulary repeated their advice for women not to walk home alone and have stepped up night-time patrols.

Similar descriptions

In the first incident, the 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in the subway in Brintons Road at 0420 BST on 20 March.

Three days later, a man attempted to sexually assault an 18-year-old in a park opposite Solent University.

Both women gave similar descriptions of their attacker.

Police visited the area on Tuesday night, one week after the second attack, to seek witnesses.
