Neighbour tells of toddler paddling pool death
A neighbour has described how "all hell broke loose" when a toddler died after being discovered unconscious in a garden paddling pool.
The two-year-old boy was found in the pool in Hatley Road, Bitterne, Southampton, on Wednesday evening.
Emergency crews took him to hospital but he later died.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said they heard children playing outside when suddenly "there were ambulances and police".
The neighbour said: "I was out in my garden and could hear the children laughing and playing.
"Then suddenly all hell broke loose, there were ambulances and police.
"It's an awful thing to happen."
Another neighbour said: "They are a lovely family, they are such wonderful parents. It's terrible, absolutely terrible."
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Officers from the constabulary's specialist investigations department are currently investigating.
"The death is not currently being treated as suspicious."
An inquest is to be opened into the death on a date still to be set.
