Gosport gas explosion leaves man in hospital

A 68-year-old man has been taken to hospital with burns after a gas explosion in a house in Hampshire.

Fire crews were called to the property in Elson Road, Gosport, following the blast in the kitchen at about 0215 BST.

The man was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth where he is being treated. No-one else was injured during the incident.

The cause of the blast is not yet known but it is not being treated as suspicious.

A number of people were evacuated and later allowed to return home.

A structural engineer is assessing the damage to the home.
