Man seen handling and chasing horses in Hampshire field

A man has been arrested after a person was spotted chasing and handling horses in a field in Hampshire.

An examination of one of the animals found it had sustained unexplained injuries to its hind quarters.

The culprit, who fled after being challenged, was seen in the field in Passfield, Liphook, between 1900 and 1930 BST last Friday.

A 25-year-old man from Liphook was arrested and bailed. The horse was treated and is recovering.

Pc Angela Smith, from Alton CID, said: "This was a rare incident which is under investigation.

"I'd like to ask anyone who has any information about this incident to get in touch, and I'd also like to remind horse owners and members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police."
