Eight appear over international paedophile network
A woman and seven men have appeared in court charged with being part of an international paedophile network.
The defendants appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court in connection with 122 charges, increased from an earlier 113.
These ranged from rape of two children under the age of 13 to possessing indecent images.
The case involves indecent photos being distributed online and 2,000 pages of internet chatlogs from between 2008 and 2010, the court heard.
Defendant Robert Hathaway, 36, of Tyseley Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire faces 67 charges, including rape and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Melissa Noon, 29, also of Tyseley Road, faces 16 charges including sexual assault, child cruelty and possessing indecent photos.
Simon Hilton, 28, of Wolsey Road, London, has 18 charges against him which include attempted rape, sexual assault of a child and possessing indecent photos of children.
Lee Parson, 37, of Arundel Street, Portsmouth, faces eight charges involving indecent photos of children.
Stephen Fraser, 41, of Hemingford Road, Cambridge, has 26 charges against him. These include sexual assault, causing a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent photos of children.
Mark Day, 45, of Whitefriars Meadow, Sandwich, Kent, is charged with facilitating a child sex offence on two counts and is charged with helping in the rape of a child.
Daniel Bell, 26, of St James Road, Emsworth, Hampshire, faces a total of 10 charges such as facilitating a child sex offence and attempting to distribute indecent photos of children.
John Maddox, 46, of Ellis Avenue, Rainham, Essex, is charged with two counts of possessing indecent photos of children.
The case was adjourned, with a plea and case management hearing on 15 July. The trial date was set for 26 September.
Three of the defendants, Mr Maddox, Mr Day and Mr Bell, were released on conditional bail.
