Armed robbers raid Southampton off-licence

Masked robbers held a Southampton shop assistant at gunpoint, forcing him to hand over cigarettes and cash.

Three men burst into News Food and Wine in Spring Road, Sholing, at about 1725 BST on Thursday armed with what is believed to be a rifle.

The trio, whose faces were covered with scarves and hoods, escaped with about 30 packets of cigarettes and £200 cash.

Hampshire police searched the area using armed officers, dogs and a helicopter but did not find the men.

Detectives said the suspects, all described as white, about 5ft 9in tall, slim and aged in their early 20s, escaped in the direction of Magnolia Road.

They said there had been several possible sightings of the suspects and officers were following other leads.

The first man was wearing a red woolly hat, a blue scarf across his mouth and nose, a black jumper with a yellow top underneath, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. He had freckles his face.

The second man, who was carrying the weapon, was wearing a grey hooded jumper pulled over his head. A dark coloured scarf covering his mouth and nose, dark jeans and trainers.

The third man was wearing a black hooded jumper with the hood up. It had the words 'US' on the front of the jumper in a light colour, denim jeans and trainers.
