Man's eye socket fractured by youth in Southampton

A 22-year-old man had his eye socket fractured when he was punched in an unprovoked attack in Southampton.

The victim was walking with his 19-year-old girlfriend in the city when they were approached by two men at about 20:00 BST on Saturday.

The attackers made offensive remarks to the woman before one of them punched the man in the face, police said.

The victim, from Winchester, was taken to Southampton hospital following the attack in Mansell Road East.

His attackers are described as white and aged about 17-years-old.

'Cowardly and unprovoked'

One was of a skinny build with short blond hair and has freckles on his face. He was wearing a red polo shirt with horizontal black and white stripes.

His accomplice had medium length hair which was either blond or light brown.

Det Insp Gary Towse, of Hampshire Police, said: "This was a cowardly and unprovoked attack on a couple who had been out for the early evening with friends."

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact Hampshire Police.
