A car stolen from an elderly man in Hampshire has been found burnt out.

The 73-year old driver gave a lift to a man in his 20s or 30s near the Waterwitch pub, Odiham, on Friday at 16:30 BST.

Ben Casey was directed to a country lane where was dragged from the Peugeot car and kicked and punched.

He was treated overnight in hospital for severe bruising. The vehicle was found late on Monday in Icknield Way, Andover.

Boat trips

Police had initially linked the attack to a sexual assault on a woman in Basingstoke later on Friday, but now say there is no connection.

The attacker is described as white, wore a dark blue anorak and possibly dark jeans and carried a small coloured rucksack.

Officers said members of the public should not approach him but call the non-emergency 101 number, or 999 if urgent.

Police have also asked people on boat trips on the Basingstoke Canal on Friday to examine any photos taken in case the assailant is in their pictures.
