Nature & Outdoors

The sky will be lit up by a number of fireworks displays across Hampshire. Hampshire Rosebowl- 4 November. Mayflower Park, Southampton - 5 November. King George V playing fields, Portsmouth - 3 November. North Walls Recreation Ground, Winchester - 5 November. Manor Park, Aldershot - 5 November. School Lane, Yateley - 5 November. Farnborough Football Club, Cherrywood Road, Farnborough - 6 November.

Heritage

A Victorian Christmas at Queen Victoria's Osborne House, East Cowes. A unique glimpse into the 19th Century Victorian festive season complete with Christmas trees, Dickensian characters and traditional entertainments. Weekend of 19-20 November.

Birds, Beasts and Bugs is an exhibition showcasing a natural history collection held by Portsmouth Museums and Records Service. At the City Museum until 6 January 2012. Free admission.

Arts & Culture

Signs of the Past is a new play by Isle of Wight writer Kevin Wilson, in association with Age Concern on the island, performed at the Apollo Theatre in Newport on 4 and 5 November.

An exhibition by artist Robert Davies who creates beautifully detailed, large scale drawings of animals is on at the Winchester Discovery Centre from 17 October until 2 November. There is also a photographic response to the drawings by local photographer Gilbert Yates, showing the beauty of the local fauna and the wild, tame and working animals of the Itchen Valley and Hampshire. Free entry to both.

The Forgotten Emperor: Battles, Betrayal and Murder in Roman Britain is a new exhibition at the Willis Museum and Sainsbury Gallery in Basingstoke between 15 October 2011 and 2 January 2012.

Portsmouth BookFest 2011 runs until 13 November. Meet more than 20 authors at 17 different events held at 10 venues across the city.

Artist Peter Jarvis stages a new exhibition of his pictures of historic sites from Southampton and the surrounding area at Solent University's Michael Andrews Concourse Gallery, from 27 October.
