A soldier who died when he fell from a moving pick-up truck travelling out of Southampton city centre was a member of the Berkshire-based Coldstream Guards.

L/Sgt Christopher Parker, 35, was travelling as a passenger with other army personnel in uniform when he fell out of the truck late on Friday night.

They had come from the Southampton Boat Show shortly before midnight.

Police urged anyone who saw the accident on the A35 Redbridge Causeway slip road to Totton to contact them.

They also want to speak to anyone who saw the soldiers during the evening at Town Quay and Herbert Walker Avenue, or the double-cab Toyota Hilux during its journey from the boat show and along the westbound A35.

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

L/Sgt Parker was based at Victoria Barracks in Sheet Street, Windsor.
