Hampshire & Isle of Wight

Ice warning issued for Hampshire roads

A weather warning for icy conditions remains in place for Hampshire.

Up to 5cm (2in) of snow fell in parts of the county overnight on Thursday, while areas near the coast and the Isle of Wight had a light dusting.

Motorists were warned to check the weather forecast before travelling as road conditions could be hazardous.

The Highways Agency said it was working closely with forecasters to monitor conditions and was treating motorways and major routes around the clock.

The Met Office said the yellow warning for ice would remain in place over the weekend.

Hampshire County Council said gritters had been out treating all main routes since 18:00 GMT on Thursday and would continue to do so.

Minor roads and community routes will also be gritted during Friday morning.

To help people plan their driving, the authority's website shows which routes have been treated.
