Newport car crash driver dies in hospital

A man has died after a car crash on the Isle of Wight.

The man, who was in his 70s, was driving a Fiat which collided with a stationary Vauxhall Omega in Holyrood Street, Newport, on Monday.

He was taken by ambulance to St Mary's Hospital but later died. No-one else was injured.

The road was closed for an hour and a half following the crash. Police are investigating whether the man suffered a medical episode at the wheel.
