Woman attacked after leaving Isle of Wight pub

A woman has been sexually assaulted by a man who offered to walk her home on the Isle of Wight.

The 22-year-old was attacked in Old Westminster Lane, Newport, in the early hours of Saturday.

The woman met the man in the High Street after leaving Yates's bar at 00:30 GMT.

The man forced himself on the victim before she was able to push him away and run into Wilver Road where she contacted police.

The attacker is described as white, aged in his early to mid 20s, of medium build, with light brown or blond hair and was wearing a dark colour zip-up top, possibly with a hood.

Det Con Victoria Hayward of Hampshire Constabulary said: "This was a frightening experience for the victim who has been left very shaken by what happened.

"Thankfully incidents such as this are very rare on the island, but nevertheless our advice would always be to never walk home late at night alone, never accept lifts or offers of company from those you do not know and, if possible, tell someone what time they can expect you home."
