Southampton driver held at knifepoint

A man jumped into the back of a car and held an 8in knife to the driver's throat while a woman and her daughter looked on.

The 35-year-old driver was travelling from Portswood to Millbrook, Southampton, with a 35-year-old woman and the 12-year-old girl.

Hampshire Constabulary said the woman and girl escaped "screaming". The men struggled until the attacker fled.

It took place at 21:30 BST on Sunday. A 32-year-old man has been arrested.

The victim was able to drive away once the knife-wielding man exited his vehicle, and then pick up his passengers who had fled further down the road.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the man hanging around in Lockerly Crescent around the time of the incident or heard the woman and girl scream.
